Mold Training for Property Managers

SERVPRO of West Sioux Falls recently held a breakfast meeting for this group of Property Managers to educate them about mold. Mold growth occurs from moisture that has not properly been cleaned up. Most people don’t realize that it’s not just serious water damage, such as flooding or a visible leak that leads to mold. Any kind of leak that isn’t properly fixed can cause mold to grow. Wet will migrate to dry. An example is a small area of carpet that is wet four feet from the wall. If this is not dried properly the moisture will work its way to the wall where it’s dry and cause further damage, most times going unnoticed. As many of these managers have seen, moisture will also build up from not running exhaust fans in laundry rooms, kitchens and bathrooms and not running AC units. Mold can begin to grow and spread in 24 to 48 hours under the right conditions so taking care of the source of the problem is critical to preventing mold growth.
