Summer Storms
The warm temperature’s of summer give us reason to spend time outside enjoying the company of our friends and family. Pool parties, cookouts, boating and camping, the possibilities are endless. While enjoying the season and its many activities, SERVPRO of Sioux Falls would like to remind you to be mindful of the powerful thunderstorms that can develop in a moment’s notice.
Hailstorms
Thunderstorms form when moist warm air rises and meets cold air. This process which causes water vapor to produce small water droplets. Depending on the conditions this can produce heavy amounts of rain in a small time or if cooled quickly enough, hail can form. Should a hailstorm come through the Sioux Falls region, it’s important to check your home for damage after the storm has passed.
Checking your home for damage
Unless you are a professional, it is recommended you do not climb up on your roof after a storm. You can still examine your home for signs of hail damage. Check the siding for dents which would indicate that your home was hit with hail, meaning your roof experienced it as well. If you have trees close to the home, make sure to inspect them for signs of broken branches which could cause damage to your home. Missing or damaged shingles are usually easy to spot from ground level. It’s important to check your attic and ceiling for signs of water damage as well.
