While responding to a fire, a firefighter will oftentimes knock out a portion of an exterior wall to help combat the flames, depending on the location of the fire within the home. Once extinguished, you are left with a hole from the exterior of your home in to the interior. This can be particularly concerning if the fire damage in minimal enough that the home can be occupied during cleaning. In the cold winter months in South Dakota, it can easily get cold enough to freeze pipes, causing a burst than can greatly damage your home with water.
